The two encounters happened 16 years apart, but they have striking similarities. In both cases, a young actor was summoned to a hotel room by a prominent Hollywood figure more than twice their age. There, the victims allege, they were coaxed onto a bed and sexually assaulted. In one story, the alleged attacker is Harvey Weinstein.

MDHHS - Domestic & Sexual Violence
Human trafficking in general and the trafficking of women in particular have been attracting increasing interest from states, international bodies, non-governmental organisations, the media and academia. The greater visibility conferred on this phenomenon has translated, on a national and international level, into policies designed to combat and prevent it, whose efficiency is debateable. This is the result not only of a lack of understanding of the specific features of the trafficking of women, but also of the fact that other objectives underlying the construction of these policies hardly meet the subjective needs and expectations of trafficked women. Thus, on the other side of the line we find a space which is a non-territory in legal and political terms, a space unthinkable in terms of the rule of law, human rights and democracy Santos, Essentially, we find people who do not exist, either in social or legal terms. These spaces are constructed on the basis of new forms of slavery, the illegal trafficking of human organs, child labour and the exploitation of prostitution. This includes, in particular, criminalisation of the phenomenon and its active agents, and enhanced rights and support for its victims.

In June, the National Academies released a report on sexual harassment in science, engineering and medicine. The report, two years in the making, outlines the prevalence and harmful effects of gender discrimination, and provides recommendations for reducing its effects. Coming from a woman who has since helped to found a scientific society, served as director of the Genetics Society of America and presented her research on sexual harassment to a National Academies panel, it is a surprising statement. But Sherry Marts left academia after finishing her Ph. The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine published a report on the high prevalence of harassment of women in science, and the National Institutes of Health and National Science Foundation are updating their sexual harassment policies.
NSVRC offers the Visionary Voice Awards, in conjunction with Sexual Assault Awareness Month each April, to recognize the creativity and hard work of individuals around the country who have demonstrated outstanding work to end sexual violence. Each year, state, territory, and tribal coalitions select an outstanding individual to nominate for the awards. Nominees may be partners from a local community or other outstanding individuals that have worked to end sexual violence. Kesha Boen, Advocacy Services Coordinator at the Ozark Rape Crisis Center ORCC , joined the organization in as a sexual assault advocate providing crisis intervention and advocacy services to survivors of sexual assault in seven counties in Arkansas. She began her career working within the criminal justice system, and after working for a prosecuting attorney, switching roles to that of an advocate was an eye opener that she says she never expected.
